Thanks to the late Doug Johnston, a fire buff and friend of the Fire Hall Museum, we have an extensive reference library of books about the history of firefighting, emergency service vehicles, and firematic collectibles. The Museum is not a lending library, but we’ll be pleased to make these resources available to people researching the history of firefighting. The Museum has a wealth of information about the Galt, Preston, Hespeler and Cambridge Fire Departments, responses to fires in the community, and specific topics related to firefighting. Some of these resources include:
- copies and verbatim transcriptions of thousands of newspaper articles about almost every fire and fire call in Cambridge from the 1840s through 2012. These digital files are organized by decades and/or individual years, depending on the number of calls in any given year.
- photographs of fires and firefighting in Cambridge.
- text books about firefighting used in various training programs.
- copies of and verbatim transcriptions of newspaper articles about many topics related to firefighting and emergency services in Cambridge, including, but not limited to:
